Facial Cream For Dry Skin – Make Sure Yours Isn’t Causing More Harm Than Good

Author: Elizabeth Ruby

If you’re looking for facial cream for dry skin, you really need to learn about the effective ingredients, before you buy anything. Many of the products on the market do not actually contain moisturizers. The only benefit they provide is to help lock in the skin’s moisture, which can be a double-edged sword.

If perspiration and sebum cannot get out of the pores, then the follicles containing the sebaceous glands become inflamed. The inflammation can lead to a minor infection. The infection can be seen as a cyst or a pimple, depending on whether or not there is a head.

Even people with excessive dryness can suffer from pimples. In fact, the dryness can lead to increased inflammation. So, it’s something of a vicious cycle. You need to keep the skin’s moisture high, but you don’t want it to be oily and you certainly don’t want to clog the pores.

So, you do not want a face cream for dry skin that contains petrolatum or mineral oil. If you read a few labels, you will see that most of them do. Liquid paraffin is not a good ingredient, either. None of those ingredients are actually moisturizing. Companies continue to use them because they are cheap and they have been used historically.

You want a face cream for dry skin that contains natural plant-based oils, very similar on a molecular level to the skin’s own sebum. Those oils can be readily absorbed. They will not clog the pores or lead to pimples.

Some of the best moisturizing ingredients include Shea butter and avocado oil, but they are a little too heavy for daytime use. They are usually reserved for nighttime facial cream for dry skin. During the day, grape seed oil is a good choice.

Another ingredient that has been proven to increase the skin’s moisture content by a large percentage in a short period of time is called Functional Keratin. Keratin is one of the structural proteins that make up the skin’s cells. One of its functions is to absorb moisture or hold water in the cells.

That keeps the cells plump and the skin’s layers firm. Research concerning the benefit of Functional Keratin has shown as much as a 40% improvement in the skin’s firmness after only 18 days of use.

So, if it contains Functional Keratin, a face cream for dry skin can make you look younger, too. Nothing contributes to the appearance of wrinkles more than lost firmness.

If you really want an incredible anti-aging effect, look for coenzyme Q10 as an ingredient. In the right concentration, it can reduce the effect that the sun and oxidative stress, in general, has had on your complexion.

Ingredients are listed on a label in order of concentration. The ingredients high on the list are included in relatively large quantities. Those low on the list are included in small quantities. Those are just a few things to keep in mind when you are shopping for facial cream for dry skin.
